Discovering the Historic Town of Bhera – An Enthralling Visit of ASG, Lahore – 23 Sep 2023
Twelve members of the Asian Study Group (ASG), Lahore, visited the historic town of Bhera, District Sargodha, on 23 September 2023. During their visit, they explored several landmarks, including the Sher Shah Suri Jama Mosque (1540 AD), Darbar Hazrat Miran Shah Sahib (1681 AD / 1092 Hijri), the centuries-old Boliwala Temple on the left bank of the Jhelum River, and Esa House (1931). They also saw the abandoned Bhera Railway Station (1881), once a prominent terminus, and walked through the old, narrow, and intricate streets of Bhera, reminiscent of the Lahore Walled City.
The group purchased Bhera’s famous specialities — Mehndi, Phanian, Mathi, Wariyan, and Patisa — from the bustling bazaar inside Chakwala Darwaza (Chinoti Gate, 1865). They also paid a visit to the Assistant Commissioner of Bhera, Mr. Hakim Khan, at his office.
The visitors were warmly received, briefed, and guided by Sahibzada Abrar Ahmed Bugvi, with support from photographer Hafiz Irfan Ali (Mani), Umer Farooq, Ghulam Shabbir, and Nayyar Abbas.
