Mohalla Malakanwala is one of the smallest mohallas of Bhera, comprising 10 to 12 houses. Probably belonged to one caste or family. It is close to Imam Kot ( old Gurudwara ) and a small old mosque, Qazianwali, of Mughal Emperor Shahjahan’s period.
In the north of mohalla Malakanwala is road Kacheri Bazaar ( from Ganjwala Darwaza to Imam Kot ) , in the northwest Imam Kot and Gondalan da Katra, in the west road Chakwala Bazaar ( road from Chakwala Darwaza joining main bazaar ), in the south mohalla Muftianwala and Hakimawala, in the east a small mollaha Jandiwala and road Kacheri Bazaar.
It is a closed-end mohalla, having one exit and entrance, located almost in the centre of the ancient city of Bhera, having nine gates. The prominent landmark of Mohalla is an old Khui outside it, presently disused. On the building, underneath where the small well is present, a white marble plaque with writing in Gurmukhi is still there ( details about it will be mentioned separately ).
A few pictures of the mohallah Malakanwala were taken by me over a period of time, and some were provided by Talat Waheed, a resident of the mohalla, are shared.
