Old Bhera Police Station ( 1870 ) was located inside inner Ganjwala Darwaza ( Lahore Gate -1865), in Kacheri Bazaar, between the Municipal Committee ( 1867) and the old building of Government High School, Bhera ( 1864). GHSB shifted to its new building in 1927, near Bhera Railway Station ( 1881). In the vacated building, a boys’ hostel was made. In 1978, the Government Intermediate College, Bhera was established in the building of a boys’ hostel ( in 2008, it was upgraded to Degree College). In 2011, the college was shifted to its new building on Bhera – Malakwal Road, near abandand railway station. The college’s empty building was allotted to Government Islamia High School, Bhera.
Presently, the area of the old Bhera Police Station is vacant. Almost all the building materials have vanished. Garbage is thrown in the space, and the area around it stinks.
It is suggested that till the time the place is utilized for some useful purpose by the Government of Punjab, it may be allotted to Government Islamia High School, as a plyground for the children or it may be converted into Ladies’ Park, Bhera. A few pictures of the old police station and its surroundings are shared for better understanding.
I hope my genuine recommendations will be considered at the appropriate level.
