Train fare from Bhera to Malakwal , 28 kms was Rs 10/- in 2006 ( prior to that Rs 7/- ). I am finding out the amount of fare when the train started plying between Bhera – Malakwal . The train operated thrice a day. The main advantage was that one could carry a sufficient amount of luggage and some children free of cost, even above the age limit .
Heard from elders about an incident at Bhera Railway Station. A woman leaving the station was checked by the Ticket Collector ( TC) for her son’s ticket, who appeared more than 12 . She argued and tried to convince him about her son’s age . When the TC insisted and disagreed : the well – built lady pushed him with a force and walked away, saying in typical Bherochi accent , ” I have given birth, not you.”
After 2006, the train service completely stopped operating between Bhera – Malakwal and back. Efforts are being made to establish the “Bhera Railway Heritage Museum” at the abandoned railway station ( 1881) . A write – up and pictures already shared .
